This morning we got up and Phil and  Cole headed home. We finish cleaning up and locking the cabin. Manny offered to hike with me for the day. That meant I could slack pack. I put most of my gear in his car then Julie and Manny left to shuttle his car up the trail.

When they returned Julie left for home and a LeapFrogger came by the cabin. We spent some time talking to her before she moved on North. We soon left and also headed north. Later in the day we caught up to the LeapFroger and had a snack while we talked.

A leapfrogger is someone who hikes the Appalachian Trail using two cars. Hiking between the two then driving one up to a new spot and hiking back to the second. This allows them to have access to a car at the end of every day or two.

About a mile from the shelter, where I was to spend the night, we reached Manny's car. Manny was nice enough to take me into town for dinner. we ate at an Italian restaurant which was surprisingly good. I had a steak and cheese and Manny had shrimp and clam pasta. We returned to the trail and Manny offered to carry my pack down to the shelter for me. I thought this is pretty funny because man he's the CEO of the company I work for and here he is carrying the pack for one of his employees. Of course Manny  and I have been good friends sense before we where employer and employee. We joked that when arriving at the shelter with the thru-hikers watching that I should order him around about where to put the pack and to hand me my drink as if he was my Sherpa. One of the two hikers who was camped there took our picture. Manny soon left to return to his car and I set up my tent for the night.

  2. Btw, I saw Manny a few days before and I had to talk him into joining you on your hike; he was really dreading it; I put my hands on both of his shoulders and said: you gotta do it Manny, don't worry about the spiders. Do it for your friend Dave.
